What’s occurring?
February 9, 2011
When I left you last we were settling for a couple of days at Coolum Beach.
Yesterday, I had the bright idea that we would move the van across to a ‘hard standing’ pitch. Unfortunately the van wouldn’t start so we didn’t move.
Eventually Roadside Assistance appeared and the van worked fine – he couldn’t find anything wrong with it.
This morning the same thing happened and now we are waiting for the assistance to appear again.
Then we are heading back to Brisbane to change the van for another – maybe this one will start first time every time!
Hong Kong is mad!

We arrived at last – the flight was long and tiresome (I never sleep on flights) and a bit uncomfortable but we weren’t too shattered at the end of it.
Cathay Pacific have new seats on their planes which, instead of reclining backwards so that when the person in the seat in front of you wants to sleep you end up with your dinner in your lap and your nose against your video screen, your seat moves, but the seat back remains static. Much more user-friendly!
We had the usual bunch of screaming kids around us but luckily most of them slept well and only screamed for the first hour and the last hour. One family seemed to have brought all their luggage on board with them – four huge bags and a couple of oversized handbags, but luckily the flight wasn’t very full so they could spread their belongings out in the overhead lockers – and they did!
We arrived in Hong Kong at 5.15 pm local time. An underground rail journey and a short taxi ride brought us to our hotel in Kennedy Town on the North West side of Hong Kong Island. We have a harbour view and are on the 19th floor (don’t look down!!). Being pretty lazy last night we decided to try the hotel for supper – they put on a pretty good buffet, all sorts of foods from pizza to sushi to Chinese dishes and a ‘choose your own’ section which they then grill in front of you. There were the usual selection of unknown items too – we avoided those!
This morning we left Twitchy to sleep off the flight and went to Stanley where there is a famous market but also a very quiet and beautiful bay.
Later we took the bus back to the centre of Hong Kong Island and the underground (MTR) over to Kowloon and up to the Ladies Market which is a mad place to visit. Then on to the flower market.
There are so many people in this province that it is sometimes even difficult to walk!
Unfortunately I’m having trouble uploading picture with wordpress today but I’ll do my best when we are next at an access point.
Tomorrow night we fly to Sydney!
Getting set
January 18, 2011
Surrounded by suitcases – several lists still to check off.
Don’t tell the cats!!! They’re going on holiday too, to be spoiled by lovely Aunty Sue and Uncle John.
We had a lovely evening with friends yesterday, helping to empty the contents of the freezer; we chilled out a little, chewed the cud and discussed all our future plans.
9am this morning found me at the local service station buying two new tyres to see us safely to the UK to catch our first flight. This wasn’t a planned but a necessary expense!
There is still so much to do. So why am I here chatting to you?
I must get on and check off another list!
